Just back from the Edinburgh Folk Club Annual Song Writing Competition where our very own Yvonne, David, Jane and Jim’s song The Kist was performed for a discerning panel of judges and audience.

Both the official Judges and the audience voted The Kist 2nd place!

Well done!!

(Yvonne even mentioned the Monday Ukearist in the introduction to the song and the compere has dubbed us the Ukulele Orchestra of Leith! Make of that what you will!)

And here’s a video of the performance:

Ukearist members Yvonne Hynd, Jane Henniker, David Foggo and Jill Shepherd, will be performing their song, “The Kist”, in the Edinburgh Folk Club, songwriting competition on Wednesday 19th May, in the Pleasance Caberet Bar. The song was written over the past four months by Yvonne, Jane and David, and also by Jim Barr. Jim made a major contribution to the writing of this song.

The show starts at 8pm and should finish around 11pm. We will not know where we are in the running order until the night. All support much appreciated there are prizes for first second and third place awarded by the judges and also a special cup awarded to the song that gets the most votes from the audience. Here’s a map of where it will be. Go through the arch and caberet bar is at the back of the courtyard on the left.

Songwriting Group

February 3, 2010 16 comments

After the impromptu song writing at last Monday’s Ukearist we thought we might try and set up a song writing group to meet up at a separate time from the regular fortnightly Monday evenings with a view to forming one or more groups to get something together for song writing competitions later this year.

It would be good to try and arrange something fairly soon.  Please let us know in the comments below if you would like to get involved with and devote extra time to this.
