Uke Boogie open mic night

December 13, 2011 Comments off

There’s a Uke Boogie open mic night at Banshee Labyrinth, Niddry Street, tonight at 8.00 p.m. Find out more here. Thanks to Alastair for the info. Unfortunately I can’t (or shouldn’t) be there as the Common Cold Fairy has been to visit. For those who are interested, perhaps we can make some firm arrangements to be at the next one. Good luck to anyone who decides to go along!

Ukearist on Monday Relocating for the Night

August 13, 2010 Comments off

Tricity Vogue's Ukulele CabaretUkearist this coming Monday (16th August) will be relocating to
Tricity Vogue’s Ukulele Cabaret at the Laughing Horse @ The Three Sisters, 139 Cowgate, EH1 1JS

It’s free and starts at 8.45, there has been talk of busking in the three sisters courtyard beforehand but I’m not sure if anyone has sorted anything out.

Make sure you bring your uke as there will plenty of opportunities to strum along as well as the open mic and other assorted fun, it promises to be a great night!

Greetings Festive Folks!

In addition to the listing for the Tricity Vogue Monday night open mic cabaret spots, our spies have spied a few more Festy Uke Options:

Lady Carol (“sad songs, silly stories, sauce”?- The List) “Malady” Assembly @ George Street 20.00 £10

(also appearing at Tricity Vogue’s first Uke Cabaret on the 9th – that one’s free)

Vive Le Cabaret (MC hosts singing songs along with his ukulele)  Pleasance at Ghillie Dhu (2 Rutland Place – nowhere near the Pleasance) 21.30 £7.50 (this one could be a bit naughty…)

Anyone else found any others?

If anyone goes to any of these, please let us know what they’re like!

Tricity Vogue’s Ukulele Cabaret

Tricity Vogue's Ukulele Cabaret
Tricity Vogue’s Ukulele Cabaret are doing a show at the fringe festival.

It’s free and I suggest that we arrange a night where we can all go along? There’s open mic too if anyone fancies a turn. What say you all?  I could make the 16th or 23rd, although the 23rd is getting rather close to our due date and the 16th is a ukearist.  We could always relocate the ukearist for the night, with an hour of strumming at the usual place first?

Show us your talents and share your skills

January 20, 2010 2 comments

At the last couple of ukearists we have experimented with setting aside part of the night to individual performances and for folk to teach the rest of us something new on the uke.  This has worked out really well so I reckon we should make it a regular feature at the Ukearist, it certainly adds a bit of variety to the night.

So far we have had performances from myself, Dave and Steven and Chris has taught chunking and 12 bar blues and did a bit about the blues scale for improvising.

I suggest that at around 9pm each night whoever fancies doing a performance or bit of teaching can do so.

This will be a really great for giving any of you interested in performing a friendly and low-pressure environment to do it in and will be really interesting for the rest of us to see what sort of things folk play outside of the ukearist.  I’m also really looking forward to learning new skills from the rest of you.

If you have any other suggestions or comments please share them below.

Ukes at the fringe

Here’s a few of the uke goings on at the Fringe. Most seem to be in the ‘musical comedy’ category, it’s a bit of shame there’s not more variety as there was last year really. Still I’m sure some of these will be good! There’s 2 uke boogie happenings which are pretty much mandatory for us to do something at!
