Christmas Night 2014 – 15th December

December 4, 2014 Comments off

The next meeting is the last one of the year and it’s time yet again for the Christmas Ukearist. As always, please bring along

  • something to drink, alcoholic if desired but beer or wine only please
  • some nibbles to share
  • the usual Christmas Ukulele Songbook

If you don’t have a copy of the songbook, or find that you put it somewhere easily forgotten when you tidied up in January, you can get one here. It’s a PDF and should be straightforward enough to download, but please let me know if you have any problems getting hold of it.

Starting time is  7.30 as usual. Hope to see you then.

Christmas Ukearist – 19th December

December 7, 2011 1 comment

The next meeting is the last before Christmas and the last one of the year, so the plan is for everybody to bring a small contribution of drinks and nibbles and make a party of it. There is a good Christmas song book to be found here. Please print out the PDF if you can as I don’t think we have any spares. Also if anybody has a music stand they can bring, it would very likely come in useful. It would be helpful to have an idea of numbers, so please confirm if you are intending to come along. And don’t forget your Santa hat!

Farewell to John!

March 25, 2011 2 comments

Hi everyone

As you should all be aware, this coming Monday (28th March) is John’s last session with Ukearist. As John was the original founder of the Ukearist, and has done so much to keep it going over the years, he will be greatly missed – so let’s make sure he gets a great sendoff!!

The plan (subject to booking) is to have our usual play for an hour or so  this Monday, and then to take the ukes over to Sofi’s pub for about half 8, after which we can have a few drinks and knock out some of our favourite tunes. Given the occasion it would be nice if we could spice it up a little with some added percussion, harmonicas, KAZOOS etc – just bring along whatever you can and we’ll be sure to make a good night of it. Obviously the more people that can come along, the better! – true for every week but particularly for this one.

Hope Uke-an all come (ouch!),

Neil

Sorry I’ve not been around much recently!

Just in case some of you were wondering where I’ve been recently, I became a father 5 weeks ago to a beautiful baby girl called Isabel!

I will be back at the ukearist as soon as I get the chance but at the moment my fatherely/husbandy services are required at home in the evening so I’m not sure exactly when that might be.

I am pleased to report, however, that Isabel is a budding ukulele player, check this out at just hours old:

Isabel playing air ukulele

I’ve also mastered the art of playing ukulele with Isabel on me in a sling AND she finds the uke soothing, what more could I want?!

Lots more photos here if you’re interested.

It’s Official!! Award-Winning Ukearists!!

May 19, 2010 11 comments

Just back from the Edinburgh Folk Club Annual Song Writing Competition where our very own Yvonne, David, Jane and Jim’s song The Kist was performed for a discerning panel of judges and audience.

Both the official Judges and the audience voted The Kist 2nd place!

Well done!!

(Yvonne even mentioned the Monday Ukearist in the introduction to the song and the compere has dubbed us the Ukulele Orchestra of Leith! Make of that what you will!)

And here’s a video of the performance:

Seasonal Uke Gifts??

Greetings All!!

OK, fess up! What uke-shaped oddities did you find under your trees?

Z, am especially interested to know what you found there ….

Nothing uke-shaped under my tree, though the ukes did make an appearance at the P family gathering. There was some strumming and some singing (not *all* of it done by me!).

Made sure not to go on *too long* (leave ’em wanting more – or at least not wanting to forcibly remove you and uke from the premises) and looking forward to a foray into Glasgow music shops on Tuesday.

And the rest of you?

Hope it has been a joyful ukey time!
