What is Monday Ukearist?
Monday Ukearist is Edinburgh’s very own ukulele gathering.
When do you get together?
We gather once a fortnight on Mondays from 7.30 till 10(pm!) at Mackenzie School of English near the foot of Leith Walk.
Can you give me the address for Mackenzie School of English, perchance?
It would be my pleasure, it is:
When you arrive please sign in at the reception desk on the ground floor (through the door opposite the stairs down to the basement).
And what do you do at the gatherings?
We play ukes! Mostly, anyway.
The idea is that folk can suggest songs they think would be cool to play on ukes as a group and we can learn and play those songs together. We might set a bit of time aside for folk to give individual performances too.
There will also be a good helping of ‘making it up as we go along’, seeing what sorts of things people want to do or work on, but only if it’s fun. Did I mention fun? Fun is important. We like fun and we hope that you do too because there will be lots of it.
Thirsty work, playing the uke, so please feel free to bring along some refreshment. Coffee, tea, water, soft drinks, beer, wine… anything but the hard stuff is acceptable. Please take your empties away at the end of the evening so we can leave the room as we find it. There is a bin in the garden, or better still take it home and recycle!
How much does it cost?
Like all the best things in life, it’s FREE!
Any questions? Use the form on the Contact Us page for any questions you might have about our meetings.
Are you reading this because you’re looking for proper ukulele lessons? Regrettably we can’t recommend tutors or give advice on where to find formal tuition. There are many excellent teachers out there, so please check local listings for information.
