Frisbee Tournament Gig – 14th August

May 31, 2010 1 comment

We have been invited back to play the headlining spot at this year’s MacBeach Ultimate Frisbee tournament over in Troon. It was fantastic fun last year, we had about 10 of us all in fancy dress (Tim’s clown costome was the pick of the bunch!) ukin’ it up good and proper – ask anyone who went it was awesome fun! Got a great response and the whole weekend was a lot of fun!

The gig will be on the evening of 14th August, we can camp over there and I think there will be a free beer or two.

So who’s up for it? Unfortunately I can’t commit to it myself due to our baby being due around that time so I’m looking for volunteers to organise things, anyone willing?

Ukulele Club of Virginia Songbook

May 24, 2010 Comments off

The Ukulele Club of Virginia have just produced a massive songbook and made it available to everyone for free. Why not take a look through and see if there’s any songs you fancy trying at the ukearist. Just print of 15 or so copies of your chosen song and bring them along, always fun to have new songs to try!

You can also download individual word files of the songs.

Just back from the Edinburgh Folk Club Annual Song Writing Competition where our very own Yvonne, David, Jane and Jim’s song The Kist was performed for a discerning panel of judges and audience.

Both the official Judges and the audience voted The Kist 2nd place!

Well done!!

(Yvonne even mentioned the Monday Ukearist in the introduction to the song and the compere has dubbed us the Ukulele Orchestra of Leith! Make of that what you will!)

And here’s a video of the performance:

Diddley Bows!

Ok, so it’s not ukuleles but is certainly in the spirit of ukuleles and follows on from the cigar box ukuleles I made a while back.   My brother and I made bass diddley bows on Saturday, on Sunday we wrote and recorded a diddley bow song about diddley bows and here it is!

May 10, 2010 3 comments

Ukearist members Yvonne Hynd, Jane Henniker, David Foggo and Jill Shepherd, will be performing their song, “The Kist”, in the Edinburgh Folk Club, songwriting competition on Wednesday 19th May, in the Pleasance Caberet Bar. The song was written over the past four months by Yvonne, Jane and David, and also by Jim Barr. Jim made a major contribution to the writing of this song.

The show starts at 8pm and should finish around 11pm. We will not know where we are in the running order until the night. All support much appreciated there are prizes for first second and third place awarded by the judges and also a special cup awarded to the song that gets the most votes from the audience. Here’s a map of where it will be. Go through the arch and caberet bar is at the back of the courtyard on the left.
