Ukes at the fringe

July 30, 2009 3 comments

Here’s a few of the uke goings on at the Fringe. Most seem to be in the ‘musical comedy’ category, it’s a bit of shame there’s not more variety as there was last year really. Still I’m sure some of these will be good! There’s 2 uke boogie happenings which are pretty much mandatory for us to do something at!

UKE BOOGIE Open mic night!
Forest Cafe, 3 Bristo Place

Pockets has invited us to do a few songs at this and I’ve said yes. Also I’m not getting up there on my own so I insist that more of you join me! No wimping out now – it will be great fun, I promise!

July 26, 2009 Comments off

So that we can get match fit for the Troon gig in August we will be having extra practices for all those who will be playing, or who think they might like to play, every fortnight on Mondays (basically the Mondays there isn’t a ukearist) at the language school from 7 onwards starting on 27th July (tomorrow!).

Hope to see plenty of you there, the gig will be brilliant fun!

Money-off voucher for UkeLounge DVD

July 26, 2009 Comments off

If any of you fancy getting your hands on the newly released Uke Lounge DVD we have a special discount code that you can use to get £2 off the usual retail price of £12.99.

The DVD is an instructional one and is taught by one of the UKs premiere uke teachers Steven Sproat – the man is a strumming master! I’ve not watched the DVD myself but it looks pretty sweet and I would expect it to be of a very high quality as Steven is an excellent teacher. I’m hoping at some point to get him up here to run a workshop with the ukearists.

In their own words:

In this DVD Steven covers everything you will need to learn the basics of Ukulele playing, right up to advanced playing. It’s the complete package.

So if you fancy getting this DVD just put in the discount code ‘monuke09‘ (without quotes) at the checkout for £2 off at

An end to your strumming woes is here

July 15, 2009 Comments off

Hot off the press today is the latest e-book from uke hunt author Al ‘Woodshed’ Wood titled ‘How to Play Ukulele Strums‘ and as a special offer to Ukearist ukers you can get it at the bargain special offer price of $12 (it usually costs $17, so quite a significant saving). You will need an offer code to get this special price and you can get it by requesting one from me through the contact page.

I know many of you have asked me about strumming patterns at the ukearist nights – this book is the one you’ve been waiting for to really take your strumming to the next level! It is aimed at beginner to improving players and covers all the fundamentals of strumming and coming up with your own strumming patterns in a very easy to learn from manner. Included in with the e-book are audio and video examples which do a great job of reinforcing what is taught in the text.

In summary, I whole-heartedly recommend it for any beginner or improving player who wants to improve their strumming – contact me today for the offer code!

Troon gig in August, Sat 15th

Hi Folk, or rather, Hej alle sammen!

I’m currently away on holiday in Copenhagen until late July but think I should get the ball rolling on this- in particular working a bit of a set list of tunes we can practise independently and also organise some extra practises as well as trying a few at the regular monday nights.

I think the best way is for you to email me shanedelaney ‘at’ and we can set up email discussions that way. I have the beginnings of a page with links to music for some of the tunes I personally have in mind, so can share that with you once you send me an email.

Look forward to hearing from you!

Uke Boogie on 9th July

July 4, 2009 Comments off

Just a quickie to say that the next uke boogie open mic night is on Thursday 9th July, from 7 till 11 at the Bowery on Roxburgh Place.

I’ll still be on my holidays but I recommend the rest of you make it down there, it’s always a great laugh and is getting really quite popular now. Plus you get the chance to see the infamous kazookeylele in the flesh, what more could you ask of a Thursday night?
