Those of you at the last ukearist would have met Sylvain. We’ll Sylvain is playing a gig next month with his guitar:

“Guitarist, singer and songwriter, Sylvain Ayite was born in Senegal from a Ghanain father and Cape Verdian mother. Sylvain has been living in Leith for over 10 years. He sings of love and its mystery in French, Portugese, Creole, English and Wolof – one of the warmest languages in the world”

It is at the ISO-BAR (7 Bernard St, EH6 6PW) on Thursday 11th June at 8pm.

London Uke Fest

May 27, 2009 Comments off

Just wondering if anyone fancies heading down to the big smoke on the 20th June for the London Uke Fest along with voracious consumption of jellied eels (I’m sure you can get them battered if you ask nicely)?

They will be going for a ukulele world record of most ukers playing a song and that song is ‘Sloop John B’ which we already know!

I’m quite tempted to go if I can get down there cheap enough, anyone else fancy it? It’s on from 12pm till 6pm on th e20th June.

Silly Songs for 25th May Ukearist

May 19, 2009 3 comments

Thought it would be fun to have a crack at a couple of very silly songs at the forthcoming Ukearist…

  • Combine Harvester
  • – I particularly want you all to practise your best west country accent, free pint of cider in the pub afterwards for the best.

  • Lumberjack Song
  • – Free girly cocktail with a cherry on a stick and parasol for any men who actually come wearing suspenders and a bra, or women who come dressed as a lumberjack.

I’ll see if I can sort a few more out before Monday, watch this space! Additional silly song suggestions welcome!

Places still available at workshop

May 19, 2009 1 comment

There are still places remaining at the Rob Mackillop workshop on Saturday 30th May. The workshop will cover fingerstyle picking, strumming & rhythms and improvisation techniques and will be aimed at advanced beginner/intermediate level ukers. There will be 4 hours of tuition and an hour’s break for lunch with food provided.

This is a great opportunity to really advance your playing, and at less than £25 for four hours tuition plus lunch it’s something of bargain too.

Full details of the workshop can be found here

To book your place just drop me a message of leave a comment to say that you’re coming.

Hi all,

Here’s a handful (one for each finger even!) of Radiohead songs in preparation for Monday. A couple more may appear over the weekend, albeit in not quite such a pretty format.
